I can"t write in German, so i dare to write you in english
with the following question;
I posted this question in the „Leser fragen, MOTORRAD antwortet“ section but had no answer yet and witer is comming soon so;
In the winter when temperatures are verry low and i ride rather slow on my motorbike, wich tire will have the most grip to corner or brake?
Will it be a michelin pilot power with verry soft rubber or a pilot road or metzeler z6 with harder rubber but with a touring rubber?
I saw a diagramm () that states that sporttires have to warm up longer to have a same level of grip as a touringtire. Is this still true or is the pilot power that much softer and better in the rain and cold than the pilot road or z6?
I do not ride fast enough to heat up a tire in the winter, i ride in slow traffic on normal roads for short distances to go to and from work. I am looking for the tire wich will be safest and will stop me the fastest.
I am not looking for the tire that will be the fastest on circuit.
I ride a Yamaha FJR, so the all-terrain tyres are no option
Here in Belgium there is not that much snow and if there is it will not stay long because of extensive use of agressive roadsalt
Michelin factory stated in an re:-e-mail to me that the pilot power is by far the better option in cold conditions, as long as mileage is no criteria. This doe"s not corespond with the statement in Motorrad articles…
anybody an opinion

Hi,
in my opinion…a touring tire witch is good testet on wet street-conditions will be the best option.
You will often have wet streets in winter.
If i drive on very cold days, i reduce the air-pressure among 10-15 % so the tire becomes faster warm.
Ok, but in the Motorrad reifentest they wrote that all the sportreifen, exept the AVON, are better in nässe as the tourensportreifen…

Hi,
I ride an XJR 1300 SP and use the Pilot Power now also during the winter period. Previously, I had the Bridgestone BT020, but at least my impression is that the Pilot Power needs a shorter period to reach the temperature for „usable“ grip.
At least I did not have problems with blocking wheels when braking hard from 80 kph to zero at round 5° Celsius with the Pilot Power, whereas the BT020 had strong blocking tendencies (especially at the back wheel) from already 15 degrees downwards.
Hope this helps!
Joachim
